About Jewellery by Idour

Since 1987, Chris Idour has been in the jewellery industry.   He specialises in jewellery by design, wedding and engagement rings and remodelling.  His passion is to create unique designs working hand in hand with individuals turning their own vision into a reality.   Chris specialises in working in a mixed media of precious metals and stones using techniques to amplify and create truly beautiful jewellery.  His work is a unique blend of modern and contemporary styles designed to suit you, the individual.

Background

Chris originally started a four year apprenticeship at a well established firm in Dunedin during which time his design and quality of workmanship saw him awarded the prestigious Deak International Design Award for a stunning Dragonfly brooch set.  Today, Chris still has a soft spot for large dragonfly brooches and they continue to prove a popular fashion accessory.

Chris further developed a wide range of valuable design skills and techniques where for over eight years, he has worked on designs for one of New Zealand's leading jewellers, Tony Williams.

In 2002, Chris was at a cross roads in his career.  Having played premier rugby and representative golf a decision had to be made – especially when maintaining a scratch handicap consumed a lot of time.   Having two young children eased the decision, Chris hung up the boots and toned down the golf, (it’s amazing what you can do with an extra 20 hours per week).

Having family ties that settled in the gold mining regions of the Cardrona Valley, Central Otago, Chris often uses this locally sourced gold in his creations.

Chris has established a studio at his home in Cliffs Road, St Clair.  Here he can while away the hours working on individual designs and showcase his exquisite pieces of  jewellery to clients.   Chris welcomes all enquiries and you can contact him through the contact me page of this website.
